Laura Clay, R.N., B.S.N., Director

Laura Clay is a graduate of Dominican College, School of Nursing, in Houston. She had been employed with the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, at CHRISTUS St. Joseph Hospital when the hospital was sold by the CHRISTUS in 2006. Since that time she has served as director of the CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinic.  Laura’s other work experience includes service with the John Stehlin Oncology Research Unit, the Stehlin Oncology Clinic, and Sadler Clinic in Conroe, Texas as a clinical oncology nurse. She is also certified in vision/hearing, scoliosis and acanthosis nigricans screenings.

Laura has been actively serving her community as well. She has been a member of the Montgomery County chapter of the American Cancer Society, serving as a board member and the education coordinator. She has served as a Texas Breast Awareness Educator, taught breast self-examination classes, and coordinated the Great American Smoke-Out Campaign in Montgomery County. Through personal and family experience, Laura is acutely aware of the importance of support networks during cancer treatment and recovery. Based on her own experience, she initiated and formed the original Cancer Support Group in Montgomery County at Montgomery County Hospital and worked closely with a local oncologist to ensure success of the group. She continues to actively serve in cancer awareness, education and prevention.

Laura currently serves as the director of community outreach for the CHRISTUS Foundation and as director of the Mobile Clinic.  She attends health fairs, provides basic health screenings, and education about personal health care and disease prevention. She collaborates with the Texas AgiLife Extension, teaching diabetics educational exercise classes to seniors.

Laura is a member of the American Heart Association and plays an important role in their Conozco Su Corazon/ Know your Heart Program Initiative, performing their laboratory screenings. She is active with the Hispanic Health Coalition and American Diabetes Association in the education of Hispanics and the local community of awareness of their diseases. As a member of the Health Ministries Association, she also works closely with parish nurses in providing health education and assisting with health screenings.

Laura is a working mother of six children, able to personally relate to the struggles of many clients served by the Community Outreach services.
