With another school year just around the corner, a number of CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare ministries are already helping students and families prepare for the return to the classroom.
As has become an annual tradition, the CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinic is hitting the streets with its Back to School Immunization Drive. Last year, the Mobile Clinic administered approximately 5,800 immunizations, including flu shots, to school-bound children and expect to see a similar number of youngsters this year.
The new CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic at 1-45 South and Wayside Drive is now welcoming patients, which include many referrals from the Healthy Living Mobile Clinic and CHRISTUS School Based Clinics.
While our School Based Clinics are gearing up for back-to-school bumps, bruises aches and pains, they’re also celebrating the success of this summer’s “Healthy Weighs” program, which taught 4th through 7th graders the value of nutrition, health education and physical activity.
Together, CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinic, St. Mary’s Clinic and School Based Clinics comprise the CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare’s Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative – a synergistic approach to delivering healthcare to Houston’s uninsured in underserved communities. As this pilot program gains traction, it will surely prove its worth to students and their families as school bells soon begin to ring.
