It was a busy day at McAdams Junior High as staff from Dickinson Independent School District (DISD) gathered to register new 6th-graders. CHRISTUS Foundation School Based Clinics collaborated with the school's nurse to provide the many immunizations needed at this point in each student’s life.
It was the School Based Clinics second year to participate in this event. Young teens arrived with smiling faces, polite thanks and a few tears. The parents showed sincere appreciation for quick and efficient completion of this state-mandated task. Immunizations were provided by the Galveston County Health department to be administered to the non-insured population.
“I didn’t know you would be here, now I don’t have to take another day off to get these done,” said one McAdams Junior High Parent.
Eighty-two students were immunized, with many needing more than three immunizations at one sitting. All immunizations were immediately entered into the State ImmTrac system and parents were slated to receive an updated immunization list in several weeks. Success was the team spirit from both DISD, CHRISTUS St. John volunteers and beyond.
“With your help I have decreased those that need immunizations by 75 percent. Thank you so much for being there for us," said Tonya Daniels, RN, nurse for McAdams Junior High.
