Parish Nurse Program

CHRISTUS St. John sponsors parish nurse/health ministry programs in several local churches. The role of the parish nurse is to enhance services available in the healthcare system and the church by providing health education, health counseling and health referrals when appropriate.

School-Based Health Centers

School-based health centers are located at Barber Elementary in Dickinson, TX and K. E. Little Elementary in Bacliff, TX. Both schools are in the Dickinson Independent School District. Students are served through these health centers by advanced nurse practitioners at no cost to the families. The goal of the school-based health centers is to increase learning opportunities and reduce absenteeism by preventing illness and promoting health.

The Gabriel Project

The Gabriel Project is a parish-based crisis pregnancy intervention program. This program is a collaborative effort between CHRISTUS Health and the Catholic churches in the Galveston-Houston diocese to provide maternal healthcare.

Wee See Vision Program

The Wee See Vision Program provides vision exams and glasses to preschool through middle school children who meet criteria for financial assistance. Children are referred by their respective school nurse, teacher, counselor, or through referral agencies to the Community Outreach Coordinator at CHRISTUS St. John Hospital.
