CHRISTUS Our Daily Bread takes a holistic approach in pursuing a mission to the homeless—ministering to the needs of the body, mind and spirit of each individual.
Staff members and volunteers assist 50 to 75 clients daily in confronting the most common causes of homelessness, such as addictions, mental illnesses and other disabilities.
Clients at the center are provided nutritious meals, clean clothing, the necessities of personal hygiene and a structured recovery program.
To men and women suffering from addictions to alcohol and drugs, licensed social workers offer assessments, individual and group counseling and referrals for treatment. Clients also have access to daily 12-step meetings and chemical dependency educational groups.
Likewise, because mental illness contributes measurably to the tragedy of homelessness, Our Daily Bread offers counseling to men and women suffering from a variety of psychopathologies.
In assuring that clients gain the benefits of continuity in their care, Our Daily Bread makes special efforts to coordinate services with more than a dozen other care providers and groups of volunteers. By their dedication, registered nurses, nursing students, students at the UTMB School of Allied Health Services, veterans’ counselors and countless, generous donors bring hope and possibility to men and women in need.
