The program has been endowed by grant funds, generous contributions from the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston and numerous companies and individuals in our community. We recently supplemented a nominal co-payment (if able to pay) so families feel like they are participating in their vision care. The students are referred to us by the District’s school personnel, nurses or our physician assistants after they have been screened for a need in this area. Approximately 50 to 75 students are served per year. This program makes such a difference in the classroom and sometimes even in after school activities providing success stories everyday for learning and playing with these students.
