Since 2006, CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare has been working to put in place a modern health center where men, women and children from the region can access top quality, affordable medical and dental care – and extend CHRISTUS Health’s legacy of caring to Central Houston.
The debate over national healthcare options – and particularly the “public option” – has raised heart rates for almost a year now. The same discussion has raised dozens of important questions. The question I want to address here might is that of personal responsibility for one’s health. I’ve heard it expressed thusly: “Why show I take care of someone who hasn’t taken take care of himself?”
Today, 45 million Americans are living without health insurance coverage and an additional 16 million are considered underinsured. Whether insured or not, growing numbers face sgnificant obstacles to getting the health care they need. They confront a lack of personal transportation, high out-of-pocket costs, language differences, a shortage of services to help them understand and use what health-care resources they have, and a declining supply of primary-care physicians—the health-care cornerstones.

Join us on Saturday, October 16, 2010 for a fifty-mile, Blue Knight police-escorted motorcycle ride from Houston to Galveston. The 2010 Nun Run benefits the children and families of CHRISTUS school-based clinics. Your donation will help provide flu vaccines, health education and screenings, back-to-school supplies and the promise of a brighter Christmas.
Non-riders can participate by pledging or donating gifts in support of the adventurous nuns. Proceeds directly benefit the children and families cared for by CHRISTUS ministries. There will be awards, prizes, breakfast, lunch and rides! Sidecars welcome.
