CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic

Caring for the Working Poor

CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic is located in a medically under-served community 30 miles southeast of Houston in Dickinson, Texas.  The Clinic opened in 1989 in response to a growing need for healthcare providers in a low-income area between Houston and Galveston. Twenty-six years later, the Clinic continues to provide quality, affordable healthcare to thousands of men, women and children annually.

Providing Affordable Healthcare to the Working Poor

Grateful patients share their appreciation for CHRISTUS Point of Light Clinic.

"I work, but my employer doesn't offer healthcare and I just can't afford health insurance for my family of four. I don't know what we would do if we didn't have access to Point of Light Clinic. I love, love, love Point of Light Clinic. Dr./Sister Dimalibot is the BEST.  I've seen her numerous times since I've been w/out health insurance. Point of Light is the only place on this side of town (that I know of) that offers affordable annual exams for women. If I were to get my annual done with my regular OB/GYN (since I have to pay out of pocket), it'd be $95 just for the visit and then several hundred dollars more for the lab work. I can go to Point of Light and get the exam and lab work done - all for $65! This is such a relief to me on my already limited income."

I Know Point of Light Will Take Care of Me

"My Name is W, I am 64 years old and I am unable to work because of my health. I don’t qualify for Medicare, Medicaid or Disability. I basically fall between the cracks when it comes to access to healthcare. About three years ago, I found Point of Light Clinic, and since then, whenever I get into trouble with my health, I know Dr. Ricca will take care of me and keep me out of the hospital."

  • Pay Gap Between Common Procedures
The perverse incentives in the U.S. health care system can be illustrated by the pay gap between common procedures—like cataract extraction and colonoscopy—and the relatively low reimbursement that PCPs receive for performing office visits, researchers write in JAMA Internal Medicine.
  • Many Fronts in Fighting Obesity By Jane E. Body
A close look at what and how Americans eat suggests that simply focusing on sugar will do little to quell the rising epidemic of obesity. This is a multifaceted problem with deep historical roots, and we are doing too little about many of its causes.
  • Avoiding Emergency Rooms By Jane E. Brody
Experts report that more than half the problems patients bring to emergency rooms either do not or would not require hospital-based care if an alternative source were readily available.
